16. Build and Paint a Scenery Kit 

(This may be the stock kit or with minor variations)

I have now finished putting together the Viking house and accessories, I expect the pots and bowls will continue to pop up as background items in lots of future pictures (already planning to use them with the halfling baggage train).  The kit went together very easily and has painted up quickly with a combination of washes and drybrushing. 

Whilst changing the kitchen, I have rescued a couple of fluorescent light fittings for painting and photography.  Primarily to see what effect it would have on my photos.

The fluorescent bulb seems to have taken the yellow out of the picture and make the blue a bit deeper.  I will continue to use the standard bulbs when I want a more yellow light such as a sunset or torchlight.

17. Paint a Model or Unit in a Colour Scheme You Don’t Normally Use

Given the whole challenge was to use six random paints to paint a random figure. Then I figure this covers using a paint scheme you don't normally use. Especially as I probably would have gone straight for an antique bronze  and golds. If I was painting this model using a free choice of paints.

I continue to work through my wargames bingo card, but it is getting harder to complete the remaining squares. So I will now need to start a few projects especially to finish the last ones.

Wargames Bingo Part 4

 Halfling Knights, Finishing Off Figures & Chrimbo Duels

I continue to work my way through the Wargaming bingo card and now I am having think about what projects are need to complete the remaining squares. Which is an interesting way to drive some unusual projects. I got a scenery kit at Salute which I plan to do to finish another square. 

No.13 - Break out a game or army you have not played in over a year, Play it and paint at least one new model for your force.

Now this is a technical choice, as I haven't played any games for over a year prior to the Fantasy Warrior's game last month. So technically any figure would count against this square. However, I haven't played Fantasy Warriors for at least a couple of years prior to Lockdown. So I think this follows both the letter and the spirit of the request.

My unit of revenants have been missing a standard bearer for dome time and this is a Bob Naismith sculpt done for Grenadier (via Fornlorn Hope). This figure seems to respond very well to a bit dry brushing after the washes. Making a quick and fun job of completing this figure.    

14. Paint a new version of one of your old character models. (Maybe the same sculpt, an updated sculpt or a newly converted version)

I have posted this figure before Halfling Knight and as seems to be the case at the moment, this figure is the one that inspired me to (re)create my current halfling army. The halfling army like the undead and Chaos armies which were all started as a mini-project to paint one or two figures. 

I had a unit of five halfling knights, so have painted this model at least six times now and may paint another of the remaining halfling knights with a bit of light modification. Sadly I don't have all five knights now and don't have any pictures of the original paint jobs.

Now I have just completed  three small dioramas (third one with pictures to follow) as Christmas presents. So this completes this bingo square. The theme of the dioramas is Fantasy Warrior duels. So not surprisingly the figures are all old Grenadier figures by Mark Copplestone and Bob Naismith. 

The undead giant is still available for just over £4 which seems an absolute bargain from Fornlorn Hope.

Wizard's Tower

 Almost Halfway on my Bingo Card

Finished the little wizard's tower I have been working on. The shape was inspired by a yogurt pot which I used as  the base for the stone work. Which was made out of modelling clay that, I found left over from one of my daughter's art projects. The rest was bits of card and coffee stick stirrers. So a very cheap and satisfying project.

This completes another trio of bingo card squares. I am approaching halfway and the remaining squares are things that I will have to make a particular effort to complete. But that I suppose is the point!

10. Scratch build a piece of scenery. (incorporating a few prefab pieces to kit bash something new and unique counts).

11. Paint a monster (Fantasy, Sci-Fi; any suitably “monstrous” creature.)

Make up your own joke.

Great fun to paint and a really good opportunity to practise painting skin on a larger miniature. 

12.Convert a model (Can be as simple as a weapon swap, or a re-pose).

A simple arm swap to convert this miniature.

Repaint a pre-painted miniature.

Triple points for this one as he is also  part of my Duel No 4  mini-challenge and I have decided to use him in my Fungoid Shrooms unit and he is the last one so finishes off the first unit.  I think I need to buy some matt varnish as the inks are bit too shiny for my liking. But he fits in nicely with the Shrooms. 

Buy a model and paint it within 48 hours.

Bought a set of Prodos games Fae on eBay, it was a bit of an impulse buy because I liked this figure in particular from the set of 6. I hadn't heard of Prodos Games before but a friend informed me that they have a very chequered past with Kick Starters. This is the first resin figures I have bought and was surprised how light they were even compared to plastics. Very nicely sculpted and a crisply cast.  

Make something for your hobby that’s not for the battlefield. (Cut foam trays display shelves, a paint rack etc.)

Like many my paints have lived in a box for over twenty years however as I started painting again quite I started to acquire a few more and finding the one wanted was becoming a chore. So 30 minutes, a glue gun, a trusty Stanley knife and a sheet of A3 foam card  produced a paint stand. As you an see I still use a wide range of paints from broad period of time.

Managed to complete another three squares in March. Bringing the total to six. 

Add a new unit to your army and paint it completely before using it on the battlefield.

To be honest I could have completed this square with any of the units from the Chaos Undivided army. However I have chosen the Hobgoblin unit as I don't plan to add any figures to this unit in the near future. Plus I like having Chaos Champion lead this unit.

Paint a model for an army that you don’t already collect or play (This might be the first model in a new army).

Well I have decided to start a new army and this is the first figure. So I think this pretty much qualifies.

Sculpt something on a model. (A fur cloak, shield icon, fire, hair etc. Just use putty for more than gap filling).

Again I think I can cover this square with a couple of different choices but I will choose the Chaos Cultists as I swapped the heads and sculpted the hoods from Green Stuff. I also sculpted a Skull Shield for the leader. I may even get round to making the shields for the others!

Came across this on bingo card on Rob Hawkin’s blog (robhawkinshobby.blogspot.com) yesterday. So, I gave decided to give it a go.

Looking through I can fill three squares straight away.

1. Finish painting a model that’s been in your lead pile or remained unfinished for more than a year.

Probably the easiest one on the whole card for me. This model sat my lead pile for over 25 years and in  partly finished state for about 18 months. So this figure definitely meets the criteria.

He was finished as I was starting to get back into painting after 18 month break.

2. Paint a unit and add scenic bases for all the models (Scratch built or resin is fine; so long as it’s more than just sand and static grass).

This one and the next was pretty straightforward for me as I do the bases before starting the next models. 

3. Claim this space only if all of the “Finished” models in your army are based, too (this could be a freebie).
