Much Better
After struggling to get any decent pictures the other day. I took the photo board outside yesterday and used natural light to photograph the army and it worked much better.

Got the last couple of high elves done this week, to finish off the core '1000 pts' army. I still need to add the banner to the standard bearer once I find my copy of the 3rd Citadel compendium.
I didn't like the pictures I took this evening so I have used the ones form an earlier set and will try again later. The lighting just wasn't right.

Technically some of these new Slann slaves are armed with the wrong weapons (supposed to be hand weapons and shields) but there are some nice options with the Frostgrave sprue so I went with looking good. The first of the completed Frostgrave models pushes the unit count up to ten and with five more left to do.
Been away on holiday for a bit, so no blog posting or painting for a few weeks. But when I came back I did manage to paint up the last mini for the core army and get around to photographing them all. And so changed the blog banner.
This project has definitely been a slow burn, as I started it in February 2022. But am glad now I have a core army which I can hopefully build on over time.
But I did drink a few beers while away

I was a bit distracted form painting up the last couple of wood elves this week. But I did put together the Slann slaves and paint up a couple of dwarves.
I am pleased with how well the EM4 dwarf bodies match up with the Oathmark dwarf heads. Giving me the first stand of dwarves for the army. I think they fit the brief for a group for dwarves living on a mountain.
I need to get the lighting sorted in my painting room as a couple of the bulbs have gone and I am sitting in the gloom while painting. And this also making the photos a bit harder to take!
Entertainment sorted for a Friday evening.

So, the Frostgrave tribals sprue turned up today, so I just had to put them together. This give me five more Slann Slave warriors, but I actually need six. So, I put together one of the Aztecs as a unit champion / standard bearer. I think the tribals rank up quite nicely with the Aztecs.

On the home straight, I just need to get the last few minis finished. It seems a bit odd to be painting winter minis in a heat wave but I just want to call this one done.
* Actually going to paint four, as I will also finish off the elf sorceress.
After resorting the army list, I only have three minis left to finish off the first 1000pts. And these guys will be next on the painting table after the wood elves.
Ok, this one is only just started. But at least I can see what needs to be done. So, far this army has only cost about £17 to get the EM4 dwarves. Everything else I already had or was given as a gift.
After returning from a work trip, I ran out of time to post a Friday Night beer. But never fear, I did find time to drink one or two! 😏
Another excellent beer from Belgium (I think??)

There is no other
word* I can think of but ‘Doh!’, as I have been thinking about finishing some
of my army projects after deciding to finish off the wood elves. Attention has
also turned to my Slann Army. One of the first units to be started was the
Slann slaves which I made by using Wargames Atlantic Aztec bodies with ‘Cannon
Fodder’ heads with the control collars. Plus a few other bits. I did an initial eight but didn’t get round to ordering any more.
While the Aztec bodies were a good basic fit, they didn’t quite hit the mark. Which is part of the reason they haven't been finished. However, whilst looking for other stuff I now realised that the Tribals minis from Frostgrave – Ghost Archipelago would be a much better fit. And with some nice spare items on the sprue. So, time to finish another unit.
And while I have
been thinking about finishing off these armies, I decided to rework the army
lists to finish units that I have started and leave out un-started units (for
now).
*Apart from many, many swear words of course!
