It all Started After I Finished the C08 High Elf Collection

The mostly unpainted and unassembled Diehard Eru-Kin

As, I had finished off the high elves collection, I was thinking about what to focus on finishing next. Like most wargamers, I have a pile of Shame, Opportunity and other half finished projects. And I decided it was time to try and paint up my box of Diehard Eru-Kin. From Tim Prow's Kickstarter a couple of years ago (I really didn't think they had been waiting that long...) and provide my Slann army with its unit of Bull Slann. I have already painted up the Amazons and one Eru-Kin but the rest of the minis have sat waiting in the postage box.

Yep I know it is missing quite a bit of jungle!

This led to a bit more thinking and wouldn't be great to have a small photography / display base for the Eru-Kin (at this point they are going to be called Slann, so I am going to stop flip flopping over names). And out came the stuff to start building a display base. 

And the beginnings of the Gangs of Rome display board. 

This led to a bit more thinking (I know it takes me a while these days), and if I was going to do one display base then I might as well do two. Since I already have large display bases for general woodland and city use. And with a new jungle one for the Slann then one for the Gangs of Rome would make a useful addition.

So, once I started the Gangs of Rome display base it sort of took over and then I started looking at accessories and the the Roman gangers. I have never been entirely happy with the grey colour scheme on the bases and decided they needed an update to a more brown/sand colour scheme. As well building the display bases, the painting some accessories, I then repainted the bases on the gangers.

All of the bases re-painted. Fortunately it is a slow burn project. 

So not that many done yet. 

And finally got round to painting* the wolves for my Paleo-hunt campaign, as they are needed for the next hunt. 

*Actually this is repainting as they have been painted at least two times for before. Once as hobhounds for the Bloodbath at Orcs drift scenarios and a second time as part of the wilde hunt for the Fae army.

Keep Painting 

Work continues to take up loads of time, but I have been making slow progress and managed to finish off another high elf and started on the Eru-Kin (Slann) warchief. 

And I have continued to map out the City of Thieves and up to 250 out of 400. So, well over halfway. But now I am going to have to find a printer big enough to print it!

Right, now on to other important matters.

Advent Day 14 - Your Move Geoff...

 Now up to Date with the Painting 

The haul so far*. A second endurance dice set meant I only had one mini to paint which was a gnome with axe. And now I caught up with the Advent paining, I can now think about playing some of the scenarios. It also means I had a bit of time this afternoon to work on some of my other projects. 

*There are some stands for the doors but I am using my scratch built scenery. 

I also able finish of the last Amazon to complete the Diehard set from the Kickstarter. Who are now ready to join the Slann war party. 

After I undercoated the dread now known as 'The Big Tinz'. He sat on the side-lines while focused on the Advent minis.  However while working on the other stuff.  I decided that he needed a bit more detail. It was kind of hard to see before he was undercoated because of the different parts and colours. But anyway, I stuck on a load of bolts in proper orky fashion. 

Was shopping today and picked up the latest copy of Miniature Wargames, mainly because of the 'free' minis. I have no real idea why I want them but I thought they could be useful if I get round to playing Five Parsecs from Home or Stargrave.

Space Guns in the Old World

Introduction to Amazons in the 2nd Ed. WFB.

Amazons are perhaps the strangest of all humans. They are physically identical to Old Worlders. An Amazon suitably dressed could walk the streets of any Old World without appearing out of place. 

The strangest thing of all about is that their population is almost all female. Whether as a result of long forgotten magic or by natural means, Amazons have adapted to re-produce parthenogenetically. The process is controlled by the Amazonian priestesses who use various natural drugs to induce pregnancy and determine gender of the child. Amazons can also reproduce normally, although this rarely happens due to the introverted involved nature Of Amazon society. 

Amazonian culture is directly derived from that Of Old Slann - the powerful, mystical technological race that once ruled the planet.  

After digging out the 3rd Ed. rules, there was very little about the Amazons except a short section in the world history section. In the 2nd Ed. WFB rules at least they had their own section in the bestiary including  special rules and weapons. This was before the army lists came out, so the bestiary in the rules set could be used to work out a basic army list. 

So, the only mention of bolt gun weapons was in the 2nd Ed. rules. Which don't seem much different to those published in Rogue Trader.

On the Painting Desk

 Its Friday Night!

Not really in a painting mood tonight but plenty of other tasks to be done. Such as sticking it all together...

Some of the odd goblins from my Fae project defected, jumped in the paint stripper and have now joined the goblin warband. Bringing the warband up to a mighty ten!

A bit like using the paint stripper, the two part epoxy gluing tends to get stored up and done in batches. Much as I really like these Diehard Slann & Amazons gluing them together is a pain. I decided to add a bolt pistol to the leader of the Amazons. Which was  legal in 2nd Ed. not sure about 3rd Ed.? I will have to go and find my WFB 3rd Ed. rulebook. 

But did finish one more Amazon during the week. 

One of the damaged high elves has now been converted into the missing standard bearer. 

The perfect accompaniment to a Friday Night beer 😁

A Good Problem To Have

The Age Old Question 

I finally managed to get my hands on some Rogue Trader Space Marines (the last time was when they first came out in 1987-1988?). The question is - What Chapter am I going to paint them? Back in the 80's, the challenge was painting the chapter symbols  on the shoulder pads. Which is one of the reasons I invented my own chapter. There was no way I was going to attempt to paint thirty marines with Blood Angels wings or Space Wolf, wolf's heads. Obviously not a problem today with the transfer sheets.  And I might now have to fix my airbrush. 

I might go for one of the other chapters from the Badab war.

Elves & Amazons

One Mini at a Time

I am continuing to work through the high elves  and the army is already nearly up to 80% complete!

 

I have trying different colour washes over the silver, to give the elves a more exotic look. Not a great photo but hopefully you can see the violet wash on this mini. 

These Diehard minis have been sitting on the side-lines for a couple of months whilst I work out how to paint them. They nicely sculpted but there are a lot of plain surfaces such as the skin and the cloth. Wile waiting for a high elf wash to dry, I decided to give the Amazon a go and  finished her skin and put the base colours on the rest of the mini.  They will be mercenaries in the Slann army. Helping to drive out the Norse invaders.

Eru-Kin Kickstarter Unboxing

Time for More Slann

My Eru-Kin Kickstarter from Diehard minis  has arrived which mainly consists of my elite Eru-Kin Slann warriors which I will be using as Eagle Warriors in my army. 

First up on the paint bench.

It looks like Malacassa will ride again 

 

I now I have to be honest, I had no intension of getting the Amazons until I saw them. They just shouted Oldhammer in a good way. And one will probably get converted to Karra Lakota of Magnificent Sven fame

The only issue  I have with these minis is the gel superglue that I normally use just isn't good enough and I did have to go and buy some 2-part epoxy glue instead. But this does of course allow a much larger variety but it does just mean I have to be a bit more disciplined and put the minis together in groups. A bit like the paint stripping in  that it has to reach a much higher threshold before I can get the mental energy together before it gets done!

I Know What I Should DO!

I know I should really put this mini (vintage Legolas) through the paint stripper before painting  but I just can't be bothered at the moment. So, will give him a go first. 

His mount is already painted without paint stripping, so I have some hope!

The Battle for Black Mere Kickstarter

 I Backed a Kickstarter

So I backed my first Kickstarter today which was Diehard Miniatures (Tim Prow's) - Battle for Black Mere! The Eru-Kin Faction. With all my focus on my Slann project lately, it is probably no surprise that I backed Tim's latest Slann Eru-Kin project. It has already been funded with a number of great 'Add on's already added. The only problem is that I have to wait until April to get the minis.

Got a bit of time to finish off the multi-base for the Slann mage, I decided to go with six slots as I have seen some nice looking lizardmen attendants on Etsy.
