Another Great Aly High Elf
After finishing my other vintage Citadel high elf, I thought I would finish the second one I had on the unpainted shelf. Obviously I have to sort the base out (See Bugbears post for my previous rant on this subject). But as I was painting I noticed that she has a description (War Maid) on the back of the base as well race indicator (High Elf) on the front. I have never noticed this on other vintage Citadel figures before?! So is it just her or have just not noticed it on other Citadel figures. The base of the other high elf is now covered in Milliput and paint so can't check that one.
Anyone seen this on other figures?
In case you are wondering about the title of this post, I just thought the her shoes as trainers once I painted them white. Seemed like an elven kind of style to wear sneakers into battle.
I tried Scale 75 Cobalt Alchemy (for the first time) on the blade to try and make it a bit more blue rather than silver. |
Never noticed that before... |
Great sculpted shield. |
Add bit more detail needed, I think. |
Boromir called to me, as soon as I started working on all these orcs. |
Haha, now I cannot but see the sneakers! :D
ReplyDeleteNicely done!
The double description on the base is very interesting. We don't own any solid-base Citadel miniatures but from what we've seen on eBay or the web we don't seem to have noticed anything like this ... Probably again a clue of how older miniatures were individually produced pieces, without the pretense of absolute uniformity. And was the description useful for using the miniature in various games other than WHFB?
ReplyDeleteDo you plan to leave it in sight or hide it in the base?
The shield is really nice, and the use of Cobalt Alchemy color on the sword seems to give us a realistic result. If a suggestion is allowed, perhaps the colour of the sword stands out little compared to the rest of the clothing, which are all in shades of blue.
personally.. I don't have or seen many pre-slotta Citadel miniatures but i've only seen this on Slotta figures.. I wonder if this was done duing the time they were going from solid to Slotta..
ReplyDeleteHowever, a quick bit of research.. the High Elf Fighter from your 'Bugbears' post, probebly the original release in 1984 had the same thing. High Elf on the front of the solid base and 'fighter' on the back. and looking at your first image... if you look, it does say 'High Elf' at the front.. but either the paint is a bit thick or it had been filed a bit to maker it harder to read. Looks like all the High elves from 1984 to 1985 (when they then swapped to Slotta) had the base markings. This doesn't seam to be the case with pre 1984 figures as they have very small solid bases which don't seam to even have much room for such markings.
What an amazing model! I really like the shield - I might have went with a green colour scheme to go for a Green Man look. But the works really well and is something of the beaten path. Very cool!
ReplyDeleteThanks, there is one on Stuff of Legends that does the Green Man finish. I was thinking of more a sea elf vibe,so was thinking water \ wind elemental.
